How we would use the money:

The Saugus community (and much of Massachusetts) has been silently battling a drug epidemic for decades. Families are suffering, people are dying, and our town is suffocating under a cloak of shame. The shame is drug addiction, and anyone who has been affected by this disease, whether first hand, or from afar, understands the shame I am referring to. Saugus has one of the highest rates of heroin, cocaine, alcohol abuse, and denial in the state. In the fall of 2012 after a rash of unnecessary and preventable deaths (6 in a one month span), a group of citizens from various professional backgrounds, came together to form the Saugus Anti-Drug Coalition. We have worked tirelessly to establish ourselves as a non-profit, build awareness, and implement a drug prevention program. With proper funding, this program will become a reality and our loved ones will not have died in vain. The $25,000 would be used to implement a comprehensive K-12 drug education program in our schools. Our group has been working incessantly to put a plan in place: A plan that will ensure our children’s future in a safe town; A plan that will educate them about the importance of making healthy choices; A program that will present them with the tools to cope and to fight in this war on drugs; A program that will be comprehensive, but most importantly, a program that needs support.
